Featured Song - 2BWU

2BWU is one of my favorite songs on SHOT OF BLUE. It started as a 30-second jam off of a cool synth riff I’d stumbled upon. The riff kept nagging me until I wrote some lyrics. It turned into a song about what it’s like to be with someone who completely envelopes you. The struggle between sinking into the bliss but somehow trying not to drown. “Forever’s just enough to be with you.”

I felt something was missing. I invited my friend Mario Giampaglia to come over one afternoon with his guitar. Unlike me, Mario’s a real musician. His skill on the guitar is amazingly versatile and original. He plugged in, we talked a minute then I just hit record and ran the track.

Mario found the spaces in between the verses and filled them with short, burning solos that became like a call and response to the lyrics. Each one was different, yet each one moved the song forward in intensity and pulled it all together with a sinuous hint of Carlos Santana.

We did two takes. It took about 20 minutes. Then I took him out to dinner.
